Vivica Genaux
Mezzo-Soprano
Fairbanks, Alaska-born mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux, one of today’s leading exponents of the Baroque and bel canto repertoires, is applauded on the world’s great musical stages, not only for her astonishing technical prowess and vocal beauty, but also for her vivid and enchanting character portrayals.
Miss Genaux’s repertoire continues to expand, now encompassing twenty-eight roles, twenty of which are trouser-parts. She initially made her mark in a trio of Rossini comic roles: Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Angelina in La Cenerentola and Isabella in L’italiana in Algeri. She has performed these captivating characters more than two hundred times with many of the major opera companies in the United States, as well as in Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Dresden, Munich, Montreal, Tel Aviv, Verona, Santiago and Perth.
The dazzling mezzo-soprano continually researches unknown works, concentrating recently on the operas of Hasse, in order to bring this masterful composer before the public. She is equally taken with the music of Pauline Viardot.
