WINNER OF THE ‘BEST INSTRUMENTAL ARTIST OF THE YEAR’ AT THE 2012 VICTOIRES DE LA MUSIQUE!
Alexandre Tharaud, one of the leading pianists of the current generation, releases a new collection of Bach keyboard concertos with the dynamic period-instrument ensemble Les Violons du Roy under director Bernard Labadie. This follows his critically-acclaimed Scarlatti sonatas album, which was listed as one of NPR’s Top 25 Albums for the first half of 2011 (joining a list of artists including Adele, Bon Iver and James Blake). This new recording features a fusion of modern and historically informed performance styles. Comprised of four of Bach’s finest concertos for solo keyboard, the release includes a composition for four separate pianos, BWV 1065, in which – thanks to studio technology – Tharaud plays all four solo parts. Throughout this and the other concertos, Tharaud displays the extraordinary sense of poise and communicative power that has made him a superstar in Europe and Canada, and has the US press buzzing about him.
