Sarah Chang is one of today’s finest violinists, critically acclaimed by countless reviewers and beloved of fans worldwide. With this disc – perhaps the most important of her career – she takes on one of the most well-known warhorses of the classical repertoire: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
The challenge she faces with this recording is to bring freshness and spontaneity to what may well be the most familiar work in classical music. Aiding her in this is the Grammy-award winning Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and together they rise to the occasion, injecting new life into the well-worn masterpiece – the elegance of “Spring,” the sultry brooding of “Summer,” the anxious foreboding of “Autumn” and the desolate longing of “Winter” (including one of the most achingly beautiful renditions of the ‘largo’ ever put to disc).
