“One of the most extraordinary instrumentalist in the world” – New York Sun
Internationally acclaimed classical guitarist Xuefei Yang turns her considerable talents and unique style to baroque music for the first time in her recording career. Bach’s music has long been championed by guitarists, and this collection of new arrangements of some of his most popular repertoire is perfect for strong radio rotation. This exciting and innovative album in which she has transcribed for the guitar some of Bach’s familiar violin concertos and other works showcases why Xuefei Yang is truly a talented artist. Accompanying Fei on this release is the Elias String Quartet.
XueFei has an exclusive international recording contract with EMI Classics. Her EMI debut album Romance de Amor (094637071427) achieved gold disc status in Hong Kong, & her second 40 Degrees North (5099920632229), featuring music from Spain and China was chosen as “Best Instrumental CD of 2008″ by Canton Radio station in China, and Editor’s Choice in Gramophone Magazine. Fei’s third CD, Rodrigo: Concerto de Aranjuez (5099969836121), for EMI was recorded with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and released in 2010. This February, Fei will embark on a six city US tour including New York where she will make her Carnegie Hall debut. She is set to perform works by Albeniz and Rodrigo as well as selections from this latest release.
In 2009, following his tremendous debut with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, which for the Guardian “deliver[ed] a clarity of expression that sounds as if he has been at the helm of the NYO for years”, he was appointed their Principal Conductor to work with the orchestra each season. In February 2011 it was announced that Petrenko will take up the position of Chief Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra from the 2013/14 season.
